Mont St. Michel and D-Day Day Trip

I was wondering if it was possible to do a one day trip to both the D-Day beaches and Mont. St. Michel. Has anyone done this? How much did it cost and how did you get there?

Thanks!

The short answer is yes. You can visit both in a single day---well at least drive past. The longer answer is NO...It %26#39;s too far for too much in too little time.

You can visit the Normandy monuments and D-Day beaches in a single, long day-trip from Paris---either with one of the escorted tour operators...OR...as a semi-do-it-yourself--via SNCF train from Paris-Gare Saint Lazare to Bayeau and then hooking up with one of the escorted tours there...OR...as a do-it-yourself by renting a car and driving from Paris.

It%26#39;s also possible to visit Mont Saint Michel as a single, long daytrip from Paris with one of the escorted tours..OR..via rental car. The SNCF train day-trip isn%26#39;t really an option due to schedule...but it could be as an overnight.

Hi, just to share my experience. Initially, I planned to go to Mont St Michel on my own while I was there in Paris. But after reading the Lonely Planet %26amp; Rough Guide, etc I realized that getting there is not very convenient especially when you do not have your own transport (I may be wrong).

As such, I joined the escorted tour to Mont St Michel from ParisVision. It was a trip that set off from Paris very early around 7 am and back in Paris around 9+pm. The trip includes guided tour of the monastary and you are given free time to shop and eat along the street. It was an enjoyable tour!

It can be physically done, but I strongly recommend going to MSM, spending the night and then returning to Paris via the D-Day beaches. This would require a car rental, but it is pretty extraordinary to spend a night in the medieval village at the foot of the Abbey.

It is not easy to get to the Mont by public transportation so your other best option is a guided tour group.

Bonjour blureplaid,

Last time we drove back from M.St.Michel, it took about 4 hours, just one way, so a one day trip would be a long day.

The D Day beaches and the Mont are so fantastic that you would not regret spending at least 2 days seeing them, and that would be a quick trip. They are both very much worth it!

Bonne chance,

Bea
