Hello everyone!
I have never been to Paris in my life, and I can honestly say that I am overwhelmed by all the hotel information. Usually when I use tripadvisor.com, I can figure out which hotel to book in what ever location I plan to visit. I have been reading reviews for over 2 weeks and I feel even more lost sometimes than before I started looking.
I am asking for any help that people can provide. I noticed that there are a lot of different sections of Paris, as this is a huge city. Here is basically a brief description of my planned trip so that you get an idea of my situation.
I will be in Paris for only 3days in July. I will be traveling with my wife. We are both in our late 20%26#39;s and we love to walk. We probably want to be close to the center of everything. We are also very active and love to go out to cafes, dance clubs, and nice restaurants. I was wondering if people can suggest hotels, or sections of Paris to only look at. We are looking for hotel rooms with the main ammenities and will like to stay under 150-200Euros a night. Any recommendations are welcomed as I feel completely lost. Thank you for your time.
C-los!

My husband and I are going to Paris in July and it is also our first time but we have decided on the Hotel France Albion. It has great reviews and seems to be just off the beatten path. We also like to walk, it seems that%26#39;s all we did in Rome, however after spending about the same time looking for a place I have seattled on this hotel. My sister-in-law in from England and she has stayed in Paris and says that the 9th district is a good place to stay. I used tripadvisor to plan our trip to Italy and have learned what reviews to really listen to, I really lucked out with one hotel. Wish you luck and we will be there in the first week of July, if you aren%26#39;t a Yankees fan maybe we will see you and say hi.

Personally, I don%26#39;t think it matters where you stay. All of Paris is accessible by Metro. We%26#39;ve only been there once and are returning this Friday.
First time we stayed in the Opera district at the Opera Cadet. Great 3 star hotel. About the quality of a Comfort Inn here, but with twin beds and no TV except BBC News. It had a shower and AC. That%26#39;s all I needed. I wasn%26#39;t there to be in the hotel room. We were up and out all day. Only using the room to sleep and change clothes.
This time we used Priceline. We offered $121 US for a 4 star hotel which comes out to $93.80 Euro. We are staying at Le Meridien Montparnasse. Hasn%26#39;t gotten the best reviews, but most reviewers will hold it next to 4 star in the US. What I do know is this price is cheaper than most 3 stars. I would rather save money on the hotel room and have more money for other things. What I like is that it is across from RER and close to Metro. I%26#39;ve heard it%26#39;s a fun section to be. We spent most of our nights before in the Latin Quarter which is not far. My total price for 4 nights with taxes, fees, and travel insurance was $550.42 US. So I also saved on the exchange rate.
In Amsterdam we a 5 star Hilton, extremely high ratings, for only $148 US.
I use Priceline a lot and love it.

I personally love the Marais area (a search for hotels in the 11th should pull something up). Nicely central, an historic area in itself and we walk to endless places from there plus plenty of Metro stations if you want to get further afield. Absolutely brilliant Sunday market on the Blvd Richard Lenoir.
We have stayed at the Hotel Bastille Marais, 36 Boulevard Richard Lenoir Paris, 75011 FR (which is a Best Western) which has rooms for 100 euros in July. They also have their own website with specials if you would like me to post that? Or just do a search for Marais hotels.
No air con to my knowledge (as you are there in July, but we had windows that opened) rooms smallish (not unusual in Paris) but you%26#39;ll be out all day! Priavte bathroom with tub/shower. It was clean and there a few small supermarkets/bread/cake shops nearby for picking up drinks and snacks.

Before I went to Paris I was given the advice to stay in the center area, basically the areas around the Seine River. And I%26#39;m glad I listened to that advice. I stayed on Ile de la Cite, which is the little isle that Notre Dame is on. I couldn%26#39;t have asked for a better location (I stayed at Hotel Henri IV.. but it might not be for everyone as its definitely not the Ritz, but it is in a beautiful area and has incredibly cheap prices - my single was 28 Euro). I was so close to everything. I could walk to so many places and enjoy the beautiful scenery instead of spending alot of time underground in the Metro.
Other central areas I was considering were Marais and Latin Quarter. Which are both great areas. Areas near the Eiffel Tower will obviously be more expensive. (Though I did just come across a great hotel that I would love to stay at next time I%26#39;m there- Hotel Royal Phare. Some rooms even have views of the Eiffel Tower. Its about 65 Euro for a single there)
So I%26#39;d stay central, you can find good deals. Have you tried checking out Eurocheapo.com? There are many great, inexpensive hotels listed there.
Or even hostels.com or trav.com? Both of these sites not only give you hostels, but budget hotel listings.
Good luck!

If I were you I would probably stayed in the area of Le Chatelet or Latin Quarter....area well located for Le Marais, great area to go out, Lati Quarter, very nice for atmosphere and walks and not so far from everything.
I stayed in Hotel Central Saint Germain, in the 5th..it was a 3 star hotel with interesting rates and the hotel was really clean and safe.I enjoyed my stay there.
I paid aroung 150-160 euros per night and it was great for value....
I can highly recommend it to you!

In my opinion the best hotel for location is the Hotel de la Place du Louvre, but it is sometimes hard to find availability there. It is very central, very nice. The Best Western Folkestone Opera is also good, usually includes full breakfast with reservation. If you call Best Western 800-528-1234, ask for international, the agents will be very helpful and knowledgeable with prices and also location.

I recently stayed at the Best Western Derby Eiffel Hotel in the 7th district. Of course since it was Feb we only paid about 90E for a double room! The hotel is very centrally located - a metro stop only a block away, Rue Cler basically around the corner. Great front desk person - Michelle. Small rooms, decent bathrooms. Never a complaint about cleanliness. I%26#39;d stay there again.

c-los,
First, July is probably peak travel time for Paris, so expect crowds, hot weather, and booked up rooms. It is definitely not too early to be getting reservations.
Second, there are over 1400 hotels reviewed in tripadvisor for Paris alone. Makes sense, since Paris is the #1 tourist destination in the world. You will find many that fit your price range. Look at the ratings, and at the recommendations given here on this board.
Third, you are right to stay in the tourist area. The closest in to the sights are the 1st through 8th arrondisements (neighborhoods), then next closest is the 9th through 16th arrondisements. All are connected by the Metro subway system, which is cheap, clean, safe and fast. Everything you will want to see for your first visit is within these areas and easily accessible by foot or by Metro.
You might want to think %26quot;airconditioning%26quot; when looking for your hotel. Many do not have it, and the heat/humidity can be brutal after a long day of sightseeing. You will probably pay more, but it is worth it!
Buy a guide book, like Rick Steves %26quot;Paris 2005%26quot;. It will give you hotels, restaurants, walking tours and tons of useful information for a first time traveler. Read it before you go and highlight the things you don%26#39;t want to miss. Take it with you, and learn some French phrases to use while you are there. You do not need to be fluent. Yes/No, Please, thank you, hello/goodbye, sir/madam. These words, spoken in even bad French, will take you far and make your adventure even more fun!

Hello:
Try the Hotel Des Croises. The web-site is
www.hotel-langlois.com
This property was a great value with hughe period decorated rooms and large bathrooms. The price was under 160.00US per night and the location was awesome. the service was friendly and attentive. I think it%26#39;s rate four stars. It rated #4 by trip advisor of favorite hotels and it definately lives upto that ranking.

While Americans and non-europeans travel to Paris in the summer, most Parisians leave the city by the middle of July and are gone through August. As a result, business traffic in hotels slows to almost nothing. To offset, many very nice hotels offer summer specials.
One 4* hotel that offers discounts is Hotel Le Lavoisier (www.hotellavoisier.com) located in the 8th. It is a small, thirty room, fashionable, boutique hotel staffed by young thritysometings who will know the type of things you will want to do. It also located close to the some of the best shopping and many of the finest restaurants in Paris. The 8th is quit a luxurious location and is within walking distance to almost all of the major attractions.
My wife (who is a bit of a fashionista) and I have stayed here many times for both business and pleasure and consider it almost a second home. Check tripadvisor for additonal comments.
Bon Voyage.
