It looks like our one day in Paris (on the end of a business trip to Barcelona) will be spent in the rain. I%26#39;ve been reading all the hugely helpful posts here and have gotten some ideas - any suggestions for what to do on our day if it rains? We get off the Talgo night train at 9 am, staying at the Hyatt Place Vendome, and having on Chez Georges (Rue de Mail). Can we walk from the hotel to dinner? Merci mille fois!

I also encountered rains on almost everyday, excpet Friday, March 25 last week in Paris. But most were light shower that did not affect our walking to the various sights/stores, except for Thursday when it rained very hard in the late afternoon in the Notre Dome neighborhood. But when we got off the RER at the Eiffel Tower exit, the rain becane much lighter, we decided to take the chance walking/visiting the Eiffel Tower and now I have the pictures of double rainbows behind the Tower to show it off.

Firstly I would invest in one of those very lightweight, folding umbrellas that easily fit into a handbag. Those sold by the street sellers magically appear with in any downpour in Paris will not last you to the end of the street! Also keep a plastic shopping bag (the kind given for free when supermarket shopping) in you bag so you have someplace to put the dripping umbrella while walking around your destination.
I never go anywhere without my little travel umbrella (I am English though!) and friend%26#39;s travelling with me have always appreciated my having it.
If you go to www.ratp.fr and then click on the English flag (to navigate the site in English) you will be able to plot in your hotel address on Rue de la Paix and your destination address. I would say Rue de Mail is walkable, and the joy of Paris is the walking around.
You may want to check, but I believe you will also be in walking distance of the restaurant from the Louvre if the weather is too aweful to be out it for long and you fancy the sort of day that is - arrive at hotel, rest and freshen up, go to museum, go have dinner, fall into bed a happy traveller.

People looking for the english flag (st Georges cross) on www.rapt.fr will be disappointed. Try clicking the british %26quot;union jack%26quot;

I never leave without my travel umbrella either! (Here we call rain Belgium sunshine).
I was there over new years and it was pretty drizzly all day but we still managed to get around ok. My feet were cold though :(

Yes April in a Paris is a wonderful beautiful song, but they do talk about the rain. From Place Vendome to Chez Georges would be about 12 to 15 minutes walk (less than 1 km) so unless it is raining (as we said in French comme vache qui pisse) a easy walk.
