The Bellevue et Chariot d%26#39;Or is a great find. Cheap %26#39;n%26#39; cheerful hotel with a Belle Epoch lobby and decent sized, very clean rooms with good bathrooms (inc. a shower head that you have to hold, unfortuately, but the pressure is equal to US standard, a nice surprise). It%26#39;s a 10 min. walk from the Georges Pomp. and Forum des Halles and a 10E cab ride - inc. tip from the Champs Elyesses. They have 56 rooms so you%26#39;re likely to get a reservation. Try and get a room on the 3rd floor or higher and facing the street (unusual request but believe me, it%26#39;s quiter than the rooms facing the courtyard as that%26#39;s where they do their recycling and stuff). The rates are 55E for a single and 60E for a double, w/o breakfast, which is about 5.55E, good value but there are 2 cafes 10 steps away that are cheaper. It%26#39;s also across the street from an ATM and there are 3 metro stops within 20 meters of the front door. We stayed there for our entire 2 week stay at New Year%26#39;s - we had only booked a week but liked the place, area and staff so much we decided to make it our base for the whole trip. Have fun!

Check out www.timhotel.com

Timhotel is a chain of 2-3 star hotels in Paris. I%26#39;ve stayed at the Timhotel Tour Eiffel and the Timhotel Opera Madeleine. Both were good, clean, cheap hotels. Yes, the rooms are very small, but I think that%26#39;s most places in Paris.

Hi Lauriston - I recently stayed at the Libertel Maxim in the 5th - see my report on this website. Cost E75 per night for twin room, very close to Metro, great service, excellent value. Small rooms but I%26#39;d stay there again in a heartbeat.

Eurocheapo has a pretty good selections of cheap hotels all over the city.

Check the reviews on TA, before you book.

Some are better than others and in better locations also.

Location is a key factor, if you don%26#39;t want to spend too much time on public transportation. Also, some metro lines are more convenient than others.

www.tellthetruthtravel.com/ParisHotels.htm

This link has 10 budget hotels. I stayed at the Hotel d%26#39;L%26#39;Avre and can recommend it. Clean, charming and CHEAP!. Great location not quite next to anything in the near 15th...but close to the Eiffel Tower, Invalides, Swiss Village...Metro: La Motte Piquet Grennelle...there is a Monoprix...and a McDonalds on the corner...a neighborhood market under the elevated train...
