where to stay in Nice in April

I am traveling to Nice in April and am not sure if it is best to stay in old town or along to promanade...any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I went last year and stayed at the Hi Hotel - this one is west of the town and quite a way from the main town centre - about 30 min walk. We also stayed at a hotel nearer the centre which was much better for the old town etc. It depends what you want to do and how much walking you would like to do! The old town with its market, fresh fish restaurants and quirky bars seemed to be quite a way from the rest of the town centre - especially with the tram construction.

We stayed at the Hotel Trocadero:

It is a 3 minute walk from the train station; VERY convenient in that respect.

It takes about 15 minutes to walk to the beach or to vieux Nice - not bad, you can enjoy the sunny weather (provided you can ignore the annoyances of the major construction throughout Nice).

This hotel was very inexpensive and very nice - recently renovated, elevator, English-speaking staff, etc. I recommended it very highly.

Try the Mercure Nice Marche aux Fleurs. You will be close to both and the hotel is facing the beach.
