Hammams at Mosques in Paris

Bonjour, I read somewhere (and of course now I can%26#39;t remember where) that there is a mosque in Paris that offers hammams. I%26#39;ve always wanted to experience this. Has anyone here ever tried it? How is it? Is it very expensive? Where is this mosque (sp?) and at which metro station?

Wow that%26#39;s a lotta questions...merci in advance.

Hi, I had that info here in my notes. It%26#39;s called Mosquee de Paris, 39 Rue Geoffroy, St. Hilaire 5eme. I read it in a top ten list of %26quot;spa havens%26quot;, so I assume it must be worthwhile. There are tours available 9-12 and 2-6 Saturday - Thursday. They also have a cafe. website address mosquee-de-paris.net

Bonjour Cedre,

You are probably referring to the Hamman de la Mosquee in the 5eme. Metro Censier-Daubenton. There are differents days for womens and for men.

Since I am un mec (I know you just learn that word) my experience would not be of great help for you. The price depends on the number of services you want (massage, tea + pastries, effoliant etc..) there is a fee to enter about 12 euros I think. I had the chance to travelled in Morrocco and try differents Hamman the one in Paris is fine and relaxing but of course does not have the ambiance of the real thing.

merci tout le monde for all of your suggestions.

urg...today I got caught at work for being too much on the internet. eeks...this forum is addictive! Nevertheless, I appreciate your feedback.

Luckyluc, thanks for reinforcing what i%26#39;ve learned, and I appreciate a mec%26#39;s review any day.

Rebonjour Cedre,

I might be wrong in my assumption, but I believe that in general women are more modest than men, so that is why I was pointing that my male experience would not help you much. You need more a lady point of view regarding public nudity and public massage, etc.

If you decide to go, bring your own gant de crin (sorry do not known that in English) and do get a lot of black soap all over. Your skin, and your husband, will be thanking you for days.

Hey Cedre,

The one at the mosquee can be a bit grotty.

For a cleaner, more lux option I head for the Bains du Marais in the 4th.

I had %26quot;the real thing%26quot; in Istanbul, but frankly I find the one in Paris to be much cleaner and more elegant, although certainly less ancient and authentic.

|||

Ah, I see what you mean Lucky Luc about being a mec%26#39;s point of view. I am a bit conservative I guess, so I%26#39;ll have to go check it out to see if it%26#39;s a woman doing the massage/scrubbing.

Now what is a gant??? The dictionary says it%26#39;s a glove (with de crin= of hair)??? And I took up on phred%26#39;s suggestion and did a search for Bains du Marais, and their website www.lesbainsdumarais.com says that a gant costs E8! What is it???? I thought perhaps it was a shower cap, but that could not cost E8.

I believe a gant de crin is sort of like a loofah sponge metten that is used to exfoliate your skin.
