Well susanaq27 I read some of these posts and it says NO CAPRI%26quot;S well I just looked at some French styles online and I see capri%26#39;s are in. So if you%26#39;re planning to go in the warmer months, I would wear capri%26#39;s , jeans, etc.

I%26#39;m going there the end of May and can%26#39;t wait, and planning my wardrobe because I want to pack light and want to mix and match!!!!

Paris Plage.....for those of you who may not know...........

It is a summer special that the city of Paris has set up right along the Seine...right bank,including hotel d%26#39;Ville,( where they have had volley ball)....for the last few years....mid July to mid August only. The city blocks off a major 2 lane road, brings in sand, palm trees, sets up many beach chairs, umbrellas, hamocks, picnic tables, all along the water....all free to use. The roadway serves as a wide promenade along which are also cafes, some small restaurants, stages for free perfromances, sections for game tourments, things for kids (or adults) to do, street performers, lotsa French just strolling....There are plenty of places to get drinks, sodas, beer, wine, sandwiches, snacks etc. You can get a breeze off the river if its hot under sections with trees (or under a bridge). Last year they even had a swimming pool set up. It has only been happening the last 3 (I think) years and each year the city seems to add something new and interesting and enlarges it. While there are people who wear shorts or bathing suits down there, please dont attempt to walk above on the city streets dressed like that........only along the river, cover up when you leave it, unless you really dont give a darn.

You can get to it from several stairways down to the river on the right bank in the area of the hotel d%26#39;Ville, or from the Notre Dame/St.Michel area go across the Ile de Cite to the right bank and you will see it down there. It is all gone by the beginning of the third week in August...........If you are there after mid July, it is worth visiting.................Bea

hmmmmmmmmmmmm....................ok~

Sue

Trust me~ I won%26#39;t be wearing a bathing suit!

I live in Paris, the most important things to remember fashion wise are NO Shorts or sneakers... unless you are exercising (which you rarely see). I see Capris everywhere even in the winter with boots.. Just try not to look sloppy and you will be fine.

Also don%26#39;t speak on the Metro, if you must do so quietly. I take the metro to and from work and the only voices you hear are those of English speakers.. and if you look they are getting secret glares from most people on the Metro.

GV,

Does the no shorts and sneakers rule apply to men as well, cos I%26#39;m goning to have a tough time convincing my hubby!!!!

|||

I would say not to speak loudly or across the cabin....but I dont think speaking normally to each other will bring stares, though they may be listening to you. Do be careful what you say though, many people will understand English. Have often had some French person overhear us and then start talking to us in a wonderful, friendly way...often. In my opinion people riding the metro (or buses) in any city are often solo so they have no one to whom they can talk.

|||

Everyone on the metro talks. They just use a much quieter conversational tone than most of us Americans. Remember, your conversation is between you and your friend--it need not involve everyone around you!

|||

Thank you Bea and Truffaut for clarification on speaking during Metro rides. My boyfriend and I plan to be respectful and quiet but not being able to talk just seemed silly!

|||

I see a lot of sloppy looking French people and some elegantly dressed as well. There%26#39;s a wide variety among the French as there is in the USA however not many overweight. If you want to fit in, bring cigarettes and smoke them walking down the street dangling them one in your fingers. I hear lots of people on the Metro speaking in hushed voices--French and otherwise--and have noticed lots of exuberant youth speaking loudly and having a good time while on the metro. Wear what%26#39;s comfortable.

Bea~ Or anyone else~

What landmarks or sights can I cross off my list if we walk along the Siene? I am having trouble fitting everything in especially with not really planning any sightseeing for that day(Bastille Day) and now I am wondering if the Paris Plage will even be there on that day???? Maybe there is something we can see as we walk along?? Help~
