Is there such a think in Paris?, I was all set for Le Chartier until I heard it was really smokey!! :-(

Yes, there are non-smoking restaurants in Paris--although not very many. Use the search box for the words %26quot;non-smoking%26quot; and %26quot;restaurant%26quot; and you will pull up a couple of threads with links to lists of non-smoking Paris restaurants.

It%26#39;s not THAT smoky that you should change restaurant. People smoke there but not so much that you can%26#39;t see your plate. An Irish bar before the ban would have been a million times worse.

Laduree has a non-smoking section upstairs. We ate at Chartier and it was very, very smokey. We sat upstairs, so maybe the smoke wafted up toward us, but it was uncomfortable.
In Italy, however, most of the restaurants are now non-smoking. It was very pleasant, a lot different from my last trip there.

A lot of places now have non-smoking sections, but they are barely separated so you still have the smoke. We%26#39;ve had some luck by sitting out on the patio. I%26#39;d be a little leary of non smoking restaurants in Paris. Sorta like non-smoking casinos in Vegas?

There are plenty of wonderful nonsmoking places in Paris, at least that have been recommended to me for our trip.
Here%26#39;s a partial list:
La Cerisaie (small...a new find reported by the head of %26quot;Bonjour Paris%26quot;)
Le Florimond
Le P%26#39;tit Troquet
Bofinger
Le Parc au Cerfs -- a good nonsmoking section
Le Souffle -- nonsmoking room
Gourmet de L%26#39;Isle
Atelier de Joel Robuchon
For a more complete list, there are a couple of websites that feature totally nonsmoking restaurants in Paris:

Hope this helps!

Thanks Nina, great list, thanks to everyone else too :-)

As of last month, Gourmet de L%26#39;Isle is no longer open.

Ate three weeks ago at La Cigale Recamier (line 12 metro stop Serves Babylon) and the food was great, the service friendly, and they had a non-smoking room, completely separate in the back of the restaurant. Mind you, there is no view from this room--in fact no windows....but if you need a non-smoking place to eat that isn%26#39;t right next to the smoking section, this one will work. We enjoyed peeking in the door way of the kitchen--it was meticulously clean! A far cry from many US kitchens. They also had us put our coats, hats, gloves, scarves (yes, it was really cold!) in a closet in the hall way--which was very convenient.

David%26amp;Kim,
Are you SURE about Au Gourmet de L%26#39;Isle? I haven%26#39;t been able to find anything on the net to confirm this. What%26#39;s your source? :) Is it permanently closed or just temporarily for remodeling?
Thanks,
Nina

Doesn%26#39;t all of France become non-smoking indoors as of April 1? Or is that just some wishful thinking?
