Montmarte - good, bad and the ugly?

Bonjour,

After many hours of tourcher of deciding, I have finally decided on a hostel in Montmarte called Le Village. Not my choice of neighbourhood, but I%26#39;ve read good reviews of the hostel.

I%26#39;ve read so much here about the Latin Quarter and Marais, and I plan to visit them all including Bastille and many other neighbourhoods. But any good cafes or restaurants or anything you%26#39;d recomend in Montmarte?

merci

Sacre Coeur, and Place Du Tertre are two of my favorite places to visit when we come to Paris.. I really think Monte Marte is a beautiful area for walking. Lovely homes and nice shops. There is the area of Pigalle which is not pretty and should probaly be avoided at night time. Monte Marte is a little far from the main tourist attractios but the metro is easily accessed from there.

Cedre, there are hundreds of cafes, restaurants, bistros, etc. in Montmartre. Be sure to stroll down rue Lepic and pick up all sorts of goodies for a nice picnic.

There are tons of great little food places in that part of town and lots of original designers. Try exploring the area around Abbesses metro station. It is one of the few quartiers in the city with permission to be open on Sundays and has some true finds.

That area is home to some of the greatest bakeries in Paris and this site http://www.vivelepain.fr/ has a pdf that you can telecharge (download) for a self guided tour on morning that you are feeling particualrly peckish. Look under %26quot;sentiers de GB%26quot; click on the 1er etape.
