Boyfriend and I will be staying Paris for three days, two nights (4/31-5/3) and are looking for a reasonable priced (HA!), clean hotel (most important priority: must have a wonderfully relaxing bathtub - in addition to a shower) located close enough to walk to the Louvre and other area attractions. I%26#39;ve read a number of reviews of hotels in this area, and they don%26#39;t sound very promising. ANY IDEAS?

Well, you can get the Le Grand Intercontinental at Priceline for about $245 night. You can%26#39;t get more reasonable for a 4-star hotel than that!
Otherwise I liked the Hotel du College de France for about $100 a night. It%26#39;s clean, comfortable and quiet. It is a 2-star hotel.

Try the Jolly Hotel Lotti. It%26#39;s on the Rue de Castiglionne (sp?), within walking distance through Jardin de Tuilleres to the Louvre. It%26#39;s a 16th century abbey I believe. So, it has that old world feel. Room isn%26#39;t luxurious, but we found it to be clean and affordable. The location would be VERY hard to beat for the price.

We got four star Le Meridien Montparnasse of $121 US a night which comes out to approx. $94 Euros an night on Priceline.
I wouldn%26#39;t worry about being able to walk to attractions. The metro is so easy to use. And being from NYC you will have it mastered in seconds.

Have a look at Hotel Central Saint Germain...a 3 star hotel very well located, Odeon and also very clean...COncerning affordable prices..always depends on what You find reasonable or not..I found the prices of this hotel reasonable because of the location and the cleanliness...
You can see it on http://www.centralstgermain.com
Have anice trip with your boyfriend!

We ended up booking Hotel de la Porte Doree in the 12th district - Opera Bastille (that is about the only drawback we found - being quite a distance ?? from the sites). It was voted #11 of 1471 on TripAdvisor (the BIBLE of all reviews), and no one seemed to have anything negative to say about it. However, I%26#39;m curious if anyone has stayed in this district, and how far it is to the Louvre, Eiffel Tower, Arc, etc. Is it walkable? or must we rely on the Metro? Also, does anyone have any restaurant recommendations in that area?

You are walking distance to anything central (louvre, centre P, Notre Dame) where the walk will be 15-20 minutes (roughly).
Most probably you will want to use the metro though, as the Arc and Tower are long long walks.
As you are there less then 5 days, just go with 10 ticket carnets.

I think you have been misled by the description of this hotel being in the Opera/Bastille area. I do not think it is. The Porte Doree metro station is on the eastern edge of central Paris, right at the edge of the Bois de Vincennes. Not a bad location but not walkable to any of the sights, I think. About 7/8 metro stops to the Pl. de la Bastille, and three or four more from there to Notre Dame.
I think it would be a fine place to stay, but not if you are thinking mainly of walking to wherever you want to go.
