Some advice from those who know!!!!

I would try and look this info up but am computer illiterate aargh!!!

We have been moved from our appt at Citadines Tour Eiffel, Blvd de Grenelle to Citadines St Germaine des Pres, Quai des Grands Augustins. We will be there June 28th to July 2nd.

Is this a better choice? Is it a safe area? Are we close to the metro lines? What are some %26#39;must do%26#39; inexpensive restaurants/cafes in the area? Is there a supermarket close by? Are there any markets close by?

If you can help me with some info/suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.

Thankyou kindly

Danielle :)

Yes, You are lucky this is a much better location, in my opinion. the citadenes Tour Eiffel is really pretty far from the sights and not near the Eiffel tower. The neighborhood is ok but it was along walk to the metro as I recall. The St Germaine location will be more fun.

Metro St Michel is about 330 meters away, and Metro Odeon is about 550 meters away. If you can find and post to this site, then you can use www.mappy.com and put your hotel address in there, the post-code is 75006 and choose %26#39;France%26#39;..you can get a map of your area showing the metro stations...

Some people might think you had just hit the jackpot!

If you are really on the Q. des Gds. Augustins, you should have a view of the river, the Ile de la Cite, possibly even Notre Dame, which will only be a short walk away.

Yes it is safe, but like everywhere be smart about your purse and so on. The St.-Michel metro station is very close, Odeon, Pont Neuf and Chatelet just a little bit farther which gives you four metro lines and the RER line (to the CDG airport among other places) to choose from wiithout having to change trains! You are almost right across the river from the Louvre!

There are so many restaurants in every price range within walking distance that it would take too long to even begin to list them. Just for starters there is a little wine bar right on the Quai towards the Pl. St.-Michel called l%26#39;Ecluse. Great! Cafe? La Palette on the rue de Seine. One of the best! Also rue de Seine, Gerard Mulot, a fabulous baker/patissier/chocolatier with also very good prepared foods to take away. Go if only to drool - and try his macaroons! (No credit cards.) Cheap restaurants? La Lozere, rue Hautefeuille. Find out what night they serve aligot (Thursday, I think) and if you like potatoes book! But do it quick because they are booked out early for that night. Polidor, rue Monsieur-le-Prince. Good honest cooking like granny makes. (No reservations and no CC either I think.) Chez Maitre Paul on the same street for something a little more upscale but still not at all expensive. Take a good appetite to all three places.

More on where to buy food/markets in another post if no-one else has filled you in. No supermarket but a fabulous street market and every kind of food shop, most terrific, within a few blocks.

Enough from me for now!

Have a great trip!

%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;If you are really on the Q. des Gds. Augustins%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;

There is a Citadines at that address, so there is no reason to doubt it.

As you managed to post here so well you can maybe go here to find out a little more about your Citadines

www.citadines.com

or

www.citadines.com/uhot/uwres_ltpms73.htm

which should take you directly to the St Germaine des Pres page.

It%26#39;s a bit like getting a free upgrade from coach/economy to Business class. Congratulations!

There is a Monoprix (between a Target and a small grocery store) every few blocks it seems. Just ask your Hotel clerk where the nearest Monoprix is and you will not need to go to another store. The Metro stops seem to be about 1-2 blocks apart. We found that we could get to most any address by finding the nearest metro and walking. Get a map that has the metro stops and the street map together.

Once again thankyou for your replies. I am learning to use the computer with some assistance (sounds crazy, but have never ever needed it before) and have managed to look up the sites and information provided by you. Sorry if I%26#39;ve asked too many questions.
