Would like to hear feedback on this hotel and the area in terms of room size (especially family/quad rooms), safety, food choices in the area, etc. Also is this a typically touristy area? It is located at 43, rue des Ecoles 75005.

I know Hotel Claude Bernard well. I stayed there for
2 weeks in September 2002 and in September 2003.
I had the same room on the top floor in the corner.
A view of Notre Dame out one balcony and Invalides out
the other. The room was large by most Paris standards.
The staff was MOST helpful. A good breakfast in the
hotel or a patissarie right across the street. 1 1/2
blocks to the Metro, good shopping in the area.
The Latin Quarter is at you feet; good restaurants, site
seeing, museums, the Sorbonne. The streets leading
to and parallel to the Seine are an adventure unto
themselves.
Best wishes

Sandra Gustafson, the author of %26quot;Great Sleeps Paris%26quot; has commented about Hotel Claude Bernard in her latest edition (2004). She refuses to recommend the hotel as its quality has declined in terms of guest service and maintenance.
The 5th district does have many tourists around, but it%26#39;s charming anyway. Just avoid the tourist trap Greek restaurants on rue de la Huchette and rue St. Severin. As far as food choices the 5th is known for inexpensive restaurants and many of them too.
