Please can someone advise me on a hotel in central Paris, i am not keen on using the metro, been on it years ago, never again.
Also does anyone know how close the Latin Quarter is to the center. Iam travelling by Eurostar and any ideas how much taxis cost.

The metro is nothing like what it was many years ago when it was smelly, noisy and generally unpleasant. It is now clean, mostly quiet, fast and efficient - though it can still be very crowded at rush hour. You can still find yourself walking a long way when chaging trains. I try to avoid changing at Chatelet, for example, for that reason.
Taxis in Paris are expensive - I think a bit more expensive than London.
There are so many hotels in central Paris it would be impossible to advise you without more precision on what you are looking for - price range, location, etc. I like the Grand Hotel Jeanne d%26#39;Arc in the 4th arrondissement if you are looking for something budget range. The other end of the scale might be the Crillon on the Place de la Concorde. Check the reviews on this site and you%26#39;ll find something to suit you pretty quickly I think.
The Latin Quarter is in the 5th arrondissement and therefore very close to the center if by the center you mean the Ile de la Cite. Generally I think of the 1st to 6th arrondissements as being %26quot;central%26quot; - and some would probably include the 7th and 8th.

That%26#39;s great i will try metro again. I would like to stay in a 4 star hotel as husbands b.day. By central Paris i would like to see a show in the evening at the Lido or go on a river trip dinner. Any more ideas.

Some husbands have all the luck!
Never having stayed there I can%26#39;t recommend it personally, but if I were ever to look for a 4-star hotel in Paris I think my first choice might be the Pavillon de la Reine.
I happen to love the area, though it is perhaps not %26quot;central%26quot; in the sense that the Champs-Elysees might be regarded as being central. But it is on one of the most beautiful squares in any city anywhere in the world, in my opinion - and there is a very fine (and correspondingly expensive) restaurant. l%26#39;Ambroisie, on the same square.

Well, the prices for a 4star hotel range from 200euros to 600euros for a standard room, could you precise your price range?
The central arr. in paris are the 1st,2nd,and parts of the 3rd,4th,5th,6th,8th and 9th.

I would like a room for about 300 euros per night. Do you think that the Latin quarters are central enough ?

A very good centrally located hotel in the Saint Germain Des Pres and a 5-10min walk from the latin quarter is the Relais Christine!

Seeing what you plan to do in Paris during your trip; I can advice you stay in the 4 star hotel called Le Petit Manoir. This hotel has very afforadable prices for a 4 star hotel and is very charming.
This hotel is the 9th disctrict, not far away from OPera and Grands Magasins, you also have buses going to Montmartre...
You can see the hotel on http://www.hotelpetitmanoir.com/
Have a nice trip and Happy birthday to your husband!

Thank you
