I surprised my husband with a trip to Paris to watch Lance Armstrong ride the tour this July 2005. Has anyone been for this event before? I would love insight on Paris at that time. ALso, what about a bike ride through parts of France that are easy to get to for a true cycling entusiast. How about wine or champagne tours.
Thanks in advance!

There are several wine-producing regions that would be great for cycling.
The Loire valley - fairly flat, lots of quiet back roads, lovely scenery, and plenty of interesting/historic places. Tours would be a good starting point.
Burgundy - a little hillier but still mostly not tough. All the way from Dijon in the north, south through Beaune, the Challonais and Maconnais down to the Beaujolais area just north of Lyon. Also much of interest here.
The Champagne area - around Epernay. I%26#39;m not so familiar with this area but I think it would also offer good cycling.
Alsace - the Vosges region, just west of the Rhine and with Colmar as your base. Definitely the most challenging and hilly of the four, though not really mountainous, but with great scenery.
All of these regions will have well signposted %26quot;Routes des Vins.%26quot;
The first three can be asily reached by train from Paris in an hour or so. The last will take a bit longer to get to, three hours or more perhaps.
Have a great trip!

Lonely Planet has a guide book for cycling in France that I have found quite helpful.
