My husband and myself spent seven nights at the Saint Christophe Hotel in the Latin Quarter. Great location with the metro and very clean hotel. The bathroom was a little small but having the mini fridge made up for it. We were able to put our waters and diet coke in it.
I%26#39;ll start with transportation. Great! Only just remember the metro closes at 0030 hours. Also be aware that this is the main transportation for people working in town and it gets crowded between 5:30-6:00 p.m. We bought the Visite passe and enjoyed the metro and the buses. Don%26#39;t worry about figuring out the bus lines. Use it as a sight seeing tour. Wherever you get off there is always a metro to get you back.
FOOD - I was little scared before going but really did enjoy the food. The three main things I did notice on all menus was duck, beef, and salmon. We took the advice of the members of this page and ate at %26quot;Le Train Bleu%26quot; great place in the gare de Lyon train station. Was worried if blue jeans was ok - it was- someone even had there dog in there. Had a great price fix of 42 or 48 euros which included a half of a bottle of wine a person. Next was Ciel de Paris in the Tour Montparnasse. Great view look right out at the Eiffel Tower. Also had price fix of $60 dollars a person but with a bottle of wine and the 19% gratutity fixed in came to 140 euros, but well worth it just for the view - food was fine but had better. This is were I had better food and was very suprised. Le Pamphlet - 38 Rue Debellyeme - near the Picasso museum in the Bastille area. The food was wonderful - the best we had the entire time. Catch them at lunch and it was price fix of 30 euros. I just about couldn%26#39;t eat everything brought out.
Next shopping - do not miss Gallerie Lafayette. If you are with your husbands take them to the 7th floor on the viewing deck which had a awesome view of Paris. I left mine there while I shopped for about 2 hours(not nearly enough time) Also i bought some lotion at the Pharmacie that I had tried from Sephora - It is %26quot;Caudalie%26quot; a bottle equaled 35 dollars compared to the States at 55 dollars. Also bought a bracelet at Hermes. I figured it up also - in the States it was $440 compared to 320 euros then minus your 19% TAX rebate. I figured I save about $90.
Sight Seeing - I tried to get everything in that I had scheduled and only missed 2 things. Thought I did pretty good. One day took the train to Normandie - If you decide once you get there to do this you can go to any of the main train stations and tell them what day and what time. WE caught a 8:40 am train and then came back to Paris that night on a 18:40 train. Make sure not to miss Saint Chapelle! also when your sight seeing all churches are open for you to just wander inside to me amazed at the structure- every church was gorgeous! Don%26#39;t miss the Luxembourg Gardins and the Jardin des Plants gardens.
Packing - It was still cool during the day and needed a light coat but my heavy one was nice at night, but also pack short sleeves - weather can change fast and be prepared with an umbrella.
I hope everyone enjoyed my comments, but if you are planning your trip read this forum daily and members leave excellent recommendations! I appreciate everyone%26#39;s imput.
