teacher discounts?

Do any of the museums give discounts for being a teacher? What documentation is required? Do Union Cards work?

(oh, we have one day in London, if you know about that too). Thanks a bunch, Dan

Discount?

How about writing off your trip as a job related expense if it%26#39;s so job related? I have.

|||

Only for French teachers or other govenment jobs.

|||

not a French teacher or government worker...

I%26#39;m a professional musician. Paris has one of the world%26#39;s best selections of fine stringed instruments and collections of gig venues.

I%26#39;m also a mechanical engineer that used to work for GE Medical Systems. There%26#39;s a big facility at Buc, next to Versailles.

sorry zasuna, I thought you were responding to the tax write-off bit, but you were responding to the museum discount query.

That%26#39;s odd. My wife is a high school art teacher in the US and has gotten into the Louvre free on her faculty ID card and the d%26#39;Orsay free on just her NEA membership card. Other friends of ours, who are teachers and visited Paris, also report the same experiences.

My Canadian faculty card is all I need. Dark who would you recommend as the best Parisian bow maker?

|||

I stand corrected.

Was it with school trips?

If not enjoy the freebie

When I was teaching in France, I got in FREE to the museums because of my teacher%26#39;s card. Am not sure if it%26#39;ll work with overseas cards, but I%26#39;d give it a try. It won%26#39;t cost you a cent to try and you won%26#39;t know unless you try!

Though we%26#39;ve known some US teachers accompanying school trips to Paris/France who have gotten in as chaperones with student groups,; we also know others, like ourselves who have gotten in as ordinary tourist/visitors.

I have heard a couple of reports that guards have turned US teacher IDs away but all the ones that we know have had no problem. It is entirely possible that some museum guards are simply setting their own %26#39;standards%26#39;---in the same way that the reports of some Metro ticket agents have turned away tourists for Carte Orange transportation passes. It%26#39;s not unknown for some to simply make it up as they go along. I do recall a report from an acquaintance of a museum guard at the d%26#39;Orsay telling tourists that they had to check their cameras...no photos allowed. the acquaintance would had siomply gone along with this until a French tourist in line behind them told the guard that he was crazy--or at least the French equivalent of %26#39;..ridiculous..%26#39; and then the guard backed-off and simply said that no flash photography was allowed. Evidently, the guard figured that tourists couldn%26#39;t take flash photos if they didn%26#39;t have cameras to take them with. It was simply his little personal %26#39;short cut%26#39; to rules enforcement.

BTW, it wasn%26#39;t with school trips, I was always alone when I did that!
