Provence by train?

My 18 year old daughter and I are taking the TVG from Paris to Avignon about May 28, then flying back to the US from Mareille on June 2. So far, I%26#39;ve booked a room in the old part of Avignon for one night and a b%26amp;B/cooking school in Luberon for 3 nights (10 minutes from Aix en Provence). We%26#39;d like to avoid renting a car. Can we see enough by train and taxi? We like visiting little towns best. Should we stay in Avignon another night so that we can take a day trip from there?

I think Provence is very hard to see without a car. The little villages are all spread out in the countryside quite a ways from each other. I would look into possible tour companies to see any more. I know that if you are in Nice there are all sorts of public buses to take you to nearby towns. The TGV does go on from Avignon to Marseilles and usually stops in Aix on the way which is a really wonderful city full of wonderful archetecture and great shopping.
