Paris Blues

Whilst in Paris in May I will have a friend joining me who is a blues fanatic. Any good blues venues to recommend ? I noted the jazz clubs left on a previous post but this chap is hoping to see some real backstreet blues that Paris used to be famous for.

Thanks in advance!

Bonjour Artful,

Paris is a jazz city. When you get there pick up a %26quot;Pariscope%26quot; and look it over for what is on and where. It is now only in French, comes out once a week and is full of ads of what is going on which you will be able to figure out, even if you dont read French.

Just heard of a %26quot;jazz%26quot; boat on the Seine which leaves from down on the river across from Bercy village in the 13th, called Laguinquette or Pirate....can%26#39;t read my own notes! Here is (I hope) the telephone number in Paris 01 43 49 69 88...bus 89 or 62 will get you to the dock on quai F. Mauriac..and it costs about 8 to 10 Euros for the boat....Just found out about this boat and havent done it yet but that%26#39;s what I have read.

I dont know if they will be on in May, but out at the eastern side of Bois de Vincennes (in Parc Floral) the city puts on a jazz festival in the summer on Saturday and Sunday afternoons in the ampitheater there....prett sure they start in May. Great musicians from all over the world and free once you pay the small entrance fee into the park. Head for the Chateau de Vincennes and Parc Floral is right on the edge of the bois there.

Dont know if you will be there for %26quot;Fete de la Musique%26quot;, on June 21 but it is great. It is the longest day of they year and they have music playing everywhere all night long (and during the day).......everywhere. Dont miss it if you are there. You will need to get a schedule of what is on where.......might be on the net soon or in a Paris paper. It is also being done in many other countries.

It is a jazz city still and it wont take much to find some good music........in bars, cafes, bistros.

Have fun,

Bea
