I need help with transportation. What is the best way: Metro vs Bus to go from Opera metro stop to the Eiffel Tower. Could you tell me what metro, or busses to take to get there.

My Paris bus map is a bit beat up, but it looks like the 42 bus from the blvd. des Capucineswill take you very close to the Tour Eiffel.
If you go here you can find the best route from any place in Paris to any other place:

I%26#39;m glad IrishRovr%26#39;s helping you out.
My maps are all meandering around in France somewhere at the moment in my brother%26#39;s backpack. He%26#39;d better bring them back...
When you get to Paris, a good investment is a Plan Arrondissement. You can buy this in Metro newstands. It%26#39;s a Bible even for the locals since the city%26#39;s laid out like a maze. It%26#39;s got all the street %26amp; bus/Metro information you%26#39;d ever need. The free non-internet ones never give you this much detail.

Can you get those plan arrondisement maps in book stores outside of Paris ? Is there any certain better one to look for?

Here you go: http://www.ulyssesguides.com/ca/fc_1025.htm
Mine is ancient and a bit dog-eared. I bought it from an ordinary news kiosque. Editions Coutarel - very serviceable still, but I don%26#39;t use the metro or bus maps in it because they are so out of date. There are even metro lines that now exist that are not on the map in my Paris par Arrondissements.

How much $$$ can I expect to spend on this %26quot;plan%26quot; in paris?

Here%26#39;s a quick shot at a web shopping search:
www.alapage.com/mx/…
Actual title is Plan de Paris par Arrondissement. In case the hyperlink doesn%26#39;t get you a picture of the booklet, you%26#39;ll notice the ISBN# is in the hyperlink text. Old ones will work fairly well. Mine is 7 years old. Paris%26#39; streets won%26#39;t reroute, but traffic and bus routes will.
It seems like most large French %26amp; Belgium cities produce such booklets.

Here%26#39;s a bunch of competitors%26#39; prices:

Fnac in Paris will sell you one for 5.61 Euros
www.fnac.com/Shelf/article.asp…
You can pick one up easily lots of places in Paris and I think the standard price is probably around 6 Euros.
Amazon.com will sell you one for $29.95

Thanks I will try to pick one up in an Fnac in Lyon or St Etienne next time I am there. All this talk of specific places and addresses is making me even more curious about all of the out way places and streets we want to see.

The #42 bus is probably the quickest and most direct route to the Eiffel Tower from around Place de la Opera..and a pleasant ride through Paris. There are a couple of different stops for the bus in the direction you want to head--one at the corner of rue Scribe %26amp; rue Auber (on the west side of the Garnier Opera, near the AMEX office) and another a few blocks further (west) along the Blvd. des Capucines at the intersections of rue des Capucines and rue de Caumartin. Bus Stops will be marked with the Route numbers which stop at them...and ahve maps.
But if you want to get a relative %26#39;fix%26#39; on this bus route and where its stops are located, follow this %26#39;navigation%26#39;. go to--
http://www.ratp.fr/ %26gt;%26gt; Select: PLAN de LIGNES %26gt;%26gt;Then the BUS tab %26gt;%26gt; Then ENTER the Bus Route # in the search Box %26quot;..Afficher le plan de la ligne n..%26quot; %26gt;%26gt; Then Click on OK. This will give you the routes of all of the bus lignes with their Stops along the route.. The RATP web site is a handy resource and weel worth your time to learn to use and %26#39;tinker%26#39; with.
