I think its always good idea to work yourself into a frenzy of anticipation before any trip. So what movies would people suggest? I can only think of 2:
1.) Amelie
2.) The Red Balloon (I haven%26#39;t since this since I was 7)

Le Divorce with Kate Hudson, just saw it the other day.
French Kiss with Meg Ryan
7 MORE WEEKS UNTIL I GO. I%26#39;m jumping out of my skin!!!!!!

I actually thought the book of %26quot;Le Divorce%26quot; was better than the movie for psyching me up. It took place in the neighborhood we always stay in and it even had the 24 bus in it!
I hope nobody mentions %26quot;Last Tango in Paris%26quot;. I thought it was kind of creepy!

No last tango in Paris.Ick.
What arrondissement of Paris was Le Divorce in?
|||
The Bourne Identity is good. I watched Charades the other day with Carey Grant and Audrey Hepburn. I%26#39;d forgottten what a great movie that was. Someone recomended a movie called Before Sunset so I bought it. It has some good views of Paris but the story was pretty lame in my opinion. I liked Le Divorce and I love Amelie. My son recommends Ronin.

I would suggest more %26quot;French%26quot; movies; I think that Le Divorce and French Kiss rely too much on false stereotyping from this side of the Atlantic.
If you have no issues with subtitles or speak French, here are some recommendations:
1) A very long engagement (Un long dimanche de fiançailles) also with Audrey Tatou (from Amélie). Theme: love history during WWI
2) Bon Voyage. There are several movies with the same name. Make sure you get the one from 2003 with Isabelle Adjani, Gérard Depardieu and others actors not very well known in North America. Theme: comedy/drama at the time the Germans invaded France during WWII
3) 8 Femmes (8 Women). Some of the most famous Grandes Dames of French cinema like Catherine Deneuve, Fanny Ardant, Isabelle Huppert work in this movie as well as some beautiful newcomers such as Virginie Ledoyen and Ludivine Sagnier. Theme: musical/drama with some comedy elements
4) The Dreamers by Bernardo Bertolucci. This movie is in English. American viewers beware: Eva Green (main female role) shows lots of skin in this movie (I am not complaining !!!!). Theme: drama
5) The Swimming Pool. Psychological drama similar to Mulhooland Drive. This movie is about 75% percent in English and 25% in French. Generous displays of Ludivine Sagnier%26#39;s body.
These movies are all relatively recent (2002 onwards), however I am not sure if there will be available in any local video store. You might have to go a video store that specialises in foreign movies (yes, they do exist !!!!!!!)

BEFORE SUNSET!!! For the entire movie they are walking around Paris. They start at Shakespeare and Co., go to a cafe, walk by the Seine. Great scenes of the Left Bank. :)
|||
Charade with Cary Grant was filmed (or at least used as a backdrop) for the Hotel St. Jacques, which is where I%26#39;m booked into.
I should check this movie out!
But French Kiss is a must......%26quot;Beautiful...wish you were here%26quot;

I liked the Red, White %26amp;amp; Blue series... although now that I think of it, they were just French films - not so much filmed in Paris. It%26#39;s been a while, I think I go find them!
|||
Other than all the above-mentioned movies (which are all faves of mine because they remind of Paris), you can also try %26#39;The Truth About Charlie%26#39; which is actually the remake of %26#39;Charade%26#39;. I%26#39;ve started my own countdown as well...I%26#39;m going in 30 days!!! Bon voyage!

My personal favorite movie of ALL time is %26quot;The Tango Lesson%26quot; by Sally Potter who directed %26quot;Orlando.%26quot; This movie is set in both Paris and Argentina with music from YoYoMa and the tango dancing is completely jaw dropping. Especially the scene in a large empty room where she dances with 3 very famous (in real life) tango dancers at the same time. Choreographed brilliantly.
One scene in the movie takes place at the St. Germain des Pres church in front of the Delecroix painting. As nutty as it may sound to you, my husband and I went there to reinact it and my brother took the photo. (You have to see the movie to understand - it is just a pose under the painting.)
Anyway - that is the best movie of all for me. I get very excited about Paris just before I leave watching it.
