I will be arriving Wednesday AM for a 10 day stay and want to take advantage of a Carte Orange! Until what time on Wed can a purchase a Carte Orange? Also, since my trip overlaps into the next week, and I want another Carte orange for the following week- at what point do I give up the old pass and have to purchase the new pass? Does this mean I need 2 pics of myself- or do they use the original photo/pass for the following week? Thanks

You will still be able to purchase a CARTE ORANGE for the current week (valid until LAST TRAIN Sunday, PM) all-Wednesday. If you want to continue using the Carte Orage for the following week (from FIRST TRAIN Monday AM), you can simply purchase a new Metro/RER ticket stub (all you get is the ticket..no ID card or plastic carry-case) from either one of the automatic vending machines at most larger Metro stations or the ticket kiosk. Your existing photo ID card is re-useable.You can pre-purchase the following week%26#39;s Metro/RER ticket stub from Friday AM onward (for some odd reason, you can%26#39;t purchase a weekly Carte Orange pass on Thursdays--for either the current week or the following week).

In order to make the carte orange pay for itself you will have use it alot those first few days. It may make more sense financially for you to simply purchase a carnet of ten tickets to keep you going until Sunday.

I disagree....Wed-Sun is 5 days - 3 rides/day = 15 rides to %26#39;break even%26#39;...the pass is much better than buying multiple carnets...

For the first portion of your stay--4 1/2 days Wednesday-thru-Sunday--the CARTE ORANGE transportation pass is a very good deal. In addition to the matter of simple cost, the CO provides you with %26#39;..hop-on/hop off..%26#39; transportation convenience. This is especially useful when it comes to using the public bus system. The CO provides you with %26#39;..free..%26#39; transfers between ALL forms of public transportation--Metro/RER/Bus. There are no free transfers between public buses with individual tickets. With the CO, all you need do is display the photo ID-card portion of your CO pass to the bus driver when you board a bus. On warm, sunny days, this %26#39;benefit%26#39; may not seem all that important, since you will probably have a tendency to spend more time strolling and walking from place to place.... but gains in %26#39;relative value%26#39; when the day turns chilly and damp (there%26#39;s no accounting for weather)...or as the day wears on and your stamina begins to ebb. When these factors are taken into account, there%26#39;s a lot more %26#39;..relative value..%26#39; to the CO than simple cost.
For the latter portion of your visit--2 full days-Monday, Tuesday and whatever portion of Wednesday you have before your departure--the CO may not be as cost effective as a CARNET of ten(10) reduced price tickets (or one-day MOBILIS passes). The diference in cost will be approx. 5 Euro between CO and CARNET. But since you can wait until Monday morning to make your decision whether to renew your CO or purchase a CARNET, you have the option of deciding on %26#39;..relative value..%26#39; for yourself.
This may sound silly but...apart from the %26#39;hop-on/hop-off%26#39; convenience of a transportation pass there is another %26#39;intangible%26#39; attached to the CARTE ORANGE--this is that it makes a great %26#39;..personalized..%26#39; souvenir of your visit.....it beats a tee shirt, refrigerator magnet or key ring to hell %26#39;n gone.

Just back last week.. we got a carte orange card and found it invaluable! We took full advantage of the metro and were able to visit evrything on our itinerary including special trips just to buy macroons at Laudrees. Because we didn%26#39;t have to worry about how many trips we were taking we were able to get to many places that would have been missed otherwise. We still felt like we had %26quot;experienced the walking city%26quot;... we just didn%26#39;t walk long distances. I would definitely get a carte orange again. The picture card and the actual ticket that you feed into the machine to get into the station are separate so you will only need one picture. In fact, no one every even asked to see our photo card. You can purchase the card on weds. until the station closes. There are automatic machines that you can use to purchase them and they even have an English version that you can click to. We ended up at the window because our credit card wouldn%26#39;t work, and still had no problem explaining what we wanted.
