Bastille Day

So I will be in Paris on this day. Anything I should know about places closing? Or things that I should plan on going to, I havent found much info on it...

thanks

Almost everything closes :)

Big military parade from the Champs all the way down to Bastille I think (not really tto sure where it ends actually!).

|||

I will be there on Bastille day also~ This is my iternerary for that day:

Have champage breakfast in room with friends~ check out parade from tv in room! I hear if you want to check out the parade you need to arrive very early as it gets extremely crowed! Go on line and check out pics they have many of the parade and the crowds~ That is why we opted to hang and have breakfast at the hotel and watch on the T.V. Plus it will be our second day and we are staying up really late for the Firemans Ball~

walk along the Siene~ check out festivites %26quot;Paris Plage%26quot;

possibly seine day cruise to get a better prespective of where things are????

Lux gardens picnic

Dinner at La Couple

Head towards the Trocadero to view the fireworks

I wouldn%26#39;t miss the %26quot;bals des pompiers%26quot;. They%26#39;re huge street parties hosted by Parisian firefighters, generally at the fire stations. There is somthing of a tradition of the firefighters trying to kiss as many of the women as possible!!

ok thank you...it will be our 3rd day there, I was trying to figure out if I should plan another day in paris due to this before moving on to Nice...because I was thinking we would kinda lose a day of sites due to closings... guess I will dedicate this day to drinking

|||

Note that many of the bals, including the best one on rue de Sevigne, are held the night before.

|||

What would you think of staying on Champs Elysees..that way we are on the street for Bastille day?

|||

No...no...no....!! Don%26#39;t stay on the Champs-Elysees. First of all, your chances of getting a room with a window overlooking the street are virtually nil. Most Paris hotels will not guarantee certain rooms and you%26#39;d be awfully disappointed. Frankly, the parade is pretty much like any other parade except that everybody in it is French. It%26#39;s also heavily militaristic with lots of marching soldiers.

The fireworks are worth watching. I personally don%26#39;t think they%26#39;re as good as fireworks in a major US city, but they do have the allure of the Eiffel Tower in the background. We sometimes watch them from one of the bridges around Chatelet so that we can avoid the huge crowds.

And don%26#39;t forget the balls. Dancing firemen are much more interesting than the above-referenced marching soldiers!

|||

ok thanks...

|||

Do you think the Paris Paris Plage will eb taking place on Bastille day??

Bea~ Or anyone else~

What landmarks or sights can I cross off my list if we walk along the Siene? I am having trouble fitting everything in especially with not really planning any sightseeing for that day(Bastille Day) and now I am wondering if the Paris Plage will even be there on that day???? Maybe there is something we can see as we walk along?? Help~
