We had originally planned to stay in the 6th around Rue Dauphine but we have gotten a great rate to stay at the Prince De Galles for our upcoming trip. Though we love the area around Rue de Buci and Rue Dauphine, we couldn%26#39;t even touch a 2-star in that area for the price we are paying so switching hotels to the left bank does not make much sense. Since we will be out and about during the day, the hotel location does not bother us as much as during the night. Are there places near the Prince De Galles that are similar to the St. Germain area for us to get our fix of late night wine drinking and people watching? We also enjoyed walking through the open air markets in the moring and pedestrian only sections in the evening. Is there anything like this in the Avenue George V area or will we need to travel for this as well? Finally, is it difficult to get a taxi late at night?

The largest open market in Paris is at the foot of Avenue George V at the Alma bridge on Wednesdays and Saturdays and it is a short walk from your hotel. As I am sure you know, you are in one of the most luxurious neighborhoods in the city with the Hotel George V as your immediate neighbor and the Avenue Montaigne a few blocks away. There are many chic bars and restaurants in your neighborhood (L%26#39;Avenue ,Bar du Plaza at the Hotel Plaza Athenee, Bar Fly for drinks, Spoon Food and Wine, Maison Blanche, Market for dinner). Also, many of Paris Gastonimic Temples are within walking distance of your hotel.
You will find more casual bistro/brasseries closer to the river or the Champs Elysees where you can sit and watch all of Paris go by. If St. Germain is more like the Upper West side and Columbus Circle then George V is more Upper East side and Madison Avenue. It is a very nice neighborhood and convenient to everything.
I hope this helps.

About night life, your hotel is almost at the corner of the Champs Elysees, so that fixes the question!
Markets : one of the best if not THE best market in Paris is really close to Prince de Galles. It is located on avenue President Wilson (right in front of George Washington%26#39;s statue, it would be difficult to find a less America related place :-) ) and stands every wednesday and saturday from 7 to noon. It is really a place to see if you want to hum a real parisian flavor.
