Paeis ATM limits

Do Paris ATM%26#39;s have maximum daily withdrawal limits?

|||

I believe it is your own bank that sets the limit. You can ask what the limit is for overseas ATMs and also you can ask them to raise the limit temporarily. Mine was already set at 800 dollars/day.

|||

yeah its usually your own bank who sets it

|||

Your own local bank sets the daily cash withdrawal limits for its ATM cards. It also sets the fees and charges for foreign currency withdrawals and transactions. You need to check with your own local bank to find out what these are for your particular account. In most cases, banks will offer two different limits (in the US most banks offer $300 %26amp; $500 daily limits). Check to find out how your bank%26#39;s system works and increase you limit if necessary.

As an Australian, you may have another minor problem. Most banks set their limits on a 24 hour system basis--as an example from 3 AM-to-3 AM their time. I%26#39;m not sure of the time difference between Sydney and Paris (9 hrs?) but this could be a factor in when you %26#39;..day..%26#39; begins.

This information is not correct. Limits can be set by BOTH your bank and the bank hosting the ATM. My bank has no limits on daily withdrawal amounts, and they are always aware when I%26#39;m overseas. Most of the Paris ATMs, however, have a limit of anywhere from 200 to 600 euros. Most of them seem to be toward the lower side. When we go antiques shopping and want to pay cash, I%26#39;ve been known to visit 3 or 4 ATMs to put together a large enough wad of cash for an item.

Truffaut is right on with this one. To avoid teh ATM rally, AMEX cardholders can head to the local office near the Opera and withdraw sums from their home accounts free of charge. Helpful information for serious shoppers looking for cash discounts.

|||

Thanks Guys.My bank did say that foreign ATM hosts may impose their own limits. Now I know what they might be.

|||

Is it normally better to carry cash with you, or better to pay with your credit card? I mean, would be worth it for me to go to the Amex office and get cash, as oppose to just using my Amex card?

%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;This information is not correct. Limits can be set by BOTH your bank and the bank hosting the ATM. My bank has no limits on daily withdrawal amounts%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;

I respectfully disagree with you on this. I certainly can%26#39;t say what your bank%26#39;s ATM policies and procedures are but MOST US banks impose a daily cash withdrawal limit on accounts---irrespective of what any other domestic or foreign bank%26#39;s limits may be. Even then, I suspect that the foreign bank%26#39;s limits are %26#39;..per transaction..%26#39; rather than %26#39;..per 24 hours..%26#39;. Frankly, since daily transaction may be done at different ATMs, operated by different banks, I%26#39;m not sure how any foreign bank could impose anything other than a %26#39;..per transaction..%26#39; limit since their ATM simply processes the transaction, they do not control your account.

phread:

Does the AMEX card option still exist? Maybe I did not ask my local AMEX office the right questions, but they seemed unaware of such a feeless option.

Yup, Darth. But it is not a %26quot;card%26quot; option. It is a service provided for cardholders and involves drawing money directly from your US checking account. The easiest way is to travel with a check or two from home, but even when I didn%26#39;t have a check with me, theu were able to help out with just my ID%26lt; AMEX card, and bank info.

And as for the 24 hour limit... Truffaut knows of what he speaks, regardless of KDK%26#39;s doubts. French banks have 24hr withdrawal limits that occasionally force one into the rally that Truffaut and I so fondly recount, going from one bank%26#39;s ATM to the next until having the desired cash on hand, regardless of your US limits.
