Current music

What is currently big right now in Paris/Europe for music? I just want to update my iPod for my trip and was curious as to what some of the more mainstream music was.

For example, during my last trip Sweetest Thing by U2 and Fly Away by Lenny Kravitz were huge before we heard them in the States and they were all over the radio.

Do you mean what European/French music is big over there or what American music is popular?

If you like electronic music you may want to listen to %26quot;Air%26quot; which is from France. I downloaded three albums onto my iPod: %26quot;Talkie Walkie%26quot;, %26quot;Moon Safari%26quot; (my favorite), and %26quot;Virgin Suicides%26quot; soundtrack. Note: I believe there are 2 soundtracks for this movie, one is Air%26#39;s and the other has the %26#39;70%26#39;s soft-rock love songs.

iPod doesn%26#39;t have this yet but I love the Buddha Bar series as well as the Ultimate Chillout series especially #4. Buddha Bar is good if you like world music with a chill flair.

I think the French word for %26quot;hit%26quot; is pretty funny, it%26#39;s %26quot;tube%26quot;. :)

If you want to see what%26#39;s playing in Paris, try Paris Live Radio. I think they also have a playlist. Website for streaming music is www.parislive.fm (Not .fr!)

I didn%26#39;t know Air toured. When did you see them? I%26#39;ll keep an eye out for them. I know they%26#39;ve worked with Radiohead who I also love.

Mid-April I am off to the Rex for the Paris Jazz Combo...I was surprised at how quickly those tix went.

Annab, I actually saw them twice last year. They were part of an annual music festival near Palm Springs (Coachella) around April/May. Then I saw them on their own in September (w/ Stereolab opening up - and Beck as their surprise guest). -- So they do tour.. so yeah, definitely keep an eye out for them.

It was kinda funny... their English must be limited as they didn%26#39;t talk much between songs. Just a %26quot;Thank you very much%26quot;.. hmm, or was it just a %26quot;merci beaucoup%26quot;?? ;-)

Thanks for all the replies. I%26#39;m into that Buddah Bar stuff that I browsed on Amazon. I have a couple of St. Germain CDs that I really dig along with Dmitri From Paris and Daft Punk. I%26#39;m going to look into Air for sure.

How about the rock scene? Franz Ferdinand, The Killers, Interpol, Muse, Gomez??????
