Carte Orange or Paris Visite?

Bonjour! My husband, 3 yr old daughter and I will be traveling to Paris soon for a one week stay ( We%26#39;ll be staying at Disney (free hotel) but will spend most of our time in Paris.

1) Does the Carte Orange still exist? I checked the RATP website and found no mention of it, so I wonder if the rumors of it being phased out are true. http://www.ratp.fr/ParisVisite/Eng/index.htm

2) I think I figured this out right, but would like to check with others before I go. If we get the Paris Visite pass for zones 1-5 for 3 days, we can travel to Paris from Disney (and back) and use the metro on an unlimited basis for 37 euros. Does this seem pretty good? Does this seem right? Here%26#39;s the link: http://www.ratp.fr/ParisVisite/Eng/index.htm

Thanks so much for your help!

Julie

The weekly (Monday, AM-thru-Sunday PM) and monthly CARTE ORANGE still exists and you can find information on it at the RATP%26#39;s web site---but ONLY on the French language version of the site--TITRES de TRANSPORT. Regardless of whether you decide to purchase a weekly CARTE ORANGE or PARIS VISITE, you will need a Zone 1-5 to travel between Disneyland Paris (RER A-4 train from Marne-La-Vallee/Chessy just outside the entrance to DP) and central Paris (approx 35-40 mins) The same pass is good for all regular and public buses as well. If you use the Metro, you use the ticket stub portion of pass in the turnstiles BUT...if you ride the buses, you DO NOT insert the ticket stub in the validator machine (this will IN-validate the RER/Metro ticket). All you need to do is diplay the pass to the driver as you board. No pass or ticket will be required for your 3 year old.

For the Carte Orange, bring a passport-sized photo of yourself to the counter. The photo booth variety from the mall will work fine. No need for the $20 official passport photo here. The Metro clerk will make a Carte Orange ID card for you.

The Carte Orange (hebdomodaire (weekly)) is indeed for Mon am through Sun pm.

Do note, however, that it is only available for purchase Mon am through Wed pm (I believe) for that very week of travel. It%26#39;s primarily for commuters but is a great bargain if you, as a tourist, can work it into your schedule.

Thank you so much for this information! You%26#39;re right about needing to check the French only version of the RATP site. See this link: http://www.ratp.fr/

It%26#39;s even cheaper this way -- 30 euros will get us through zones 1-5 on an unlimited basis, and since we%26#39;ll be arriving on Sunday, we%26#39;ll take full advantage of it.

I still have extra passport pictures of all of us to bring. They%26#39;re certainly not great photos, so I%26#39;ll be happy to get rid of them!

REMEMBER...the CARTE ORANGE is valid from FIRST TRAIN on MONDAY AM until LAST TRAIN on SUNDAY PM. You will be able to purchase your CARTE ORANGE for the following week ***BUT*** you will NOT be able to begin using it until the next day. If you begin using it on the day of your arrival, you will IN-validate for the following week. So...for you transportation needs on your first day of arrival (Sunday) purchase a reduced-price CARNET of 10 individual tickets and use these...NOT your CARTE ORANGE.

As for the photo required for the ID cvard portion of the CARTE ORANGE portion of the pass, you may use ANY appropriately sized (approx 1 1/4%26quot; x 1 1/4%26quot;) %26#39;head-shot%26#39;. If you%26#39;re not happy with your spare passport photos, then simply take new ones with a digital camera until you find one you like and print it out...or clip a head shot from an old family photo (one that makes you look like a %26#39;movie star%26#39;) or simply photocopy the photo on your drivers license, employee ID, or print out your photo from the FBI%26#39;s %26#39;Most Wanted%26#39; website. IT DOESN%26quot;T MATTER. ANY properly sized photo will do.

I didn%26#39;t know this! It would have been just my luck to invalidate the passes. The carnet or individual tickets will work for Sunday.

I have a feeling Sunday won%26#39;t involve much travel in France for us anyway. Our direct six hour flight leaves Boston on Saturday night at 5 and arrives in Paris on Sunday morning at 6. Our 3 year old will likely be feeling the effects of %26quot;midnight%26quot; in our Eastern time zone and might not be fit to take out in public!

Thanks again for your help!

So I%26#39;m assuming this Carte Orange%26#39;s really benefits you if your trip is of the Monday-Sunday variety? I%26#39;ll be in Paris Friday-Friday. It doesn%26#39;t seem like the best option for me.

|||

The weekly CARTE ORANGE pass won%26#39;t be available to you for the initial FRI, SAT %26amp; SUN of your visit....BUT...It will be for the remaining MON-thru FRI and it will STILL be your BEST DEAL. For the first FRI--thru-SUN, use either CARNETs of reduced price tickets or one-day MOBILIS passes.

You can purchase your CARTE ORANGE pass for the following week on Friday(your arrival day) ***BUT***...you can NOT begin using it until MONDAY.

There is another, albeit intangible, benefit to the CARTE ORANGE: because it requires a %26#39;head-shot%26#39; for the photo ID potion of the pass, it makes a GREAT personalized souvenir of your visit to Paris and beats a refrigerator magnet, key ring or tee-shirt to hell %26#39;n gone.

Merci to everyone for this valuable information. I%26#39;m going to be in France during the last 2 weeks of May...the last one in Paris. I was going to get the 5-day (zones 1-5) Paris Visite card...but Carte Orange is perfect for me since I%26#39;m goig to be there Sunday to Sunday. TripAvisor is an amazing source of information :o)

Unless you plan at least a couple of day trips out of Paris on the RER or plan to use the RER for your airport transfers, a Zone 1-2 pass will cover ALL of your Metro/Bus needs within Paris--anywhere the regular Metro lignes run. If you were only planning one daytrip out to Versailles (Zone 4), as an example, you would still be better off purchasing a Zone 1-2 pass and a separate r.t. RER ticket for the day-trip.

Your photo-ID can be used again for the following week or for your next visit, etc. You%26#39;ll just be purchasing a new orange ticket. If you%26#39;re staying longer you can even use the same ID for the month ticket.
