Carte Musee et Monuments pass

Hi there!

Reading these postings has been so helpful, and we%26#39;ve printed out many forum discussions.... My husband and I are going in 2 weeks, for 16 days throughout France...

6 days in Paris, 5 on the riviera, then up to Chamonix.

Our travel agent has been discouraging us from getting any museum pass, saying that it will require us to go to 2 museums a day, while in Paris, and that the lines won%26#39;t be that bad this time of year.

Is that true? If not, where and how do we get a pass? Are there different kinds?

THANK YOU!!

how many museums do you want to visit?

if you have alot to do on your list i say get the museum pass... it definately helped with the lines when i went last week (crowds may have been bigger due to spring break though)

i got a 3 days pass and in some cases visisted 2 museums a day but if it saved me money (which it did) then who cares.. its not like its a sin to visit 2 in a day.. it wasnt too tiring as long as you dont plan on seeing every peice of artwork in the louvre, etc

Thanks Cornfellow --

we were thinking the Louvre, D%26#39;orsay, Pompidou and maybe Rodin?

Good point about not needing to see every piece of artwork...guess I%26#39;ve just been concerned that we%26#39;ll spend so much time in museums that we won%26#39;t get into the %26quot;Parisian culture%26quot;, so speak.

Does that make sense or am I out of my gourd? :)

Where can we get a pass, if that is what we end up doing? Do we need to get it before we leave?

Hello-

Don%26#39;t get it ahead of time in the US, the prices will be marked up. I believe you can get it at any metro station or museum. We decided to get one because we figured we can pop in and out of the Louvre for a few days straight as to not get overwhelmed, it would also enable us to visit museums we may not have thought of seeing.

|||

you cant get it at ALLLLllll metro stations.. but on our second station we went to they had it... so thats your best bet. i think if you want to get one at the museum they make you line up in the main line to get one. at least thats what the %26quot;museum guard%26quot; person told me at d%26#39;orsay.

%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;. guess I%26#39;ve just been concerned that we%26#39;ll spend so much time in museums that we won%26#39;t get into the %26quot;Parisian culture%26quot;, so speak. %26lt;%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;

yeah i mean the museums are great, but honestly i%26#39;m not a HUGGGEEEE art person or museum person... d%26#39;orsay, rodin, and the louvre have so many awesome works that they are entertaining.. but after a couple of hours or so at one place i get restless and want to get outside to a garden or cafe

Get the three day pass - you won%26#39;t regret it. If I%26#39;m not mistaken, it%26#39;s good for any National Museum/Monument in France. I used it at Versailles, the l%26#39;Arc de Triomphe for the climb to the top, and obviously the Louvre and D%26#39;Orsay.

Also, at least when I used it, they had a special entrance for anyone with the Carte de Musee passes. You didn%26#39;t have to stand in line.

It%26#39;s true that not all Metro stations will have it - the larger ones that also act as RER stations will. I picked mine up at the St. Michel RER station, but I wouldn%26#39;t be surprised if Chatelet had a counter for it.

Does anyone know if your children without passes can accompany you directly into the museums if you have a pass? I want to avoid the lines, but don%26#39;t know if I should buy a pass for the children, who could otherwise enter the museums for free!

I just returned Tuesday from Paris and I think this pass was one of the best things I bought. There were long lines at the Louvre, the Musee d%26#39;Orsay and Versailles, but at all three places, we walked right in with no wait at all at the special entrance. My daughter (age 8) came in with us at that entrance without any problems. We bought our passes at the metro station the first day we arrived there, it was easy.

There WILL be lines. For instance, if you go to the Orsay on a weekend, be prepared to wait at least an hour - unless you have a museum pass.

If you plan on going to Versailles, plan on waiting another hour - unless you have a museum pass.

Also, by having the museum pass, you are more likely to go to museums you wouldn%26#39;t normally go to.

Looks like we%26#39;re getting a museum pass at a metro station when we get there!!

Thank you all so much for your advice!

Hello,

Does anyone know where to find a list of monuments that the pass covers? Pardon my ignorance as I don%26#39;t really know what%26#39;s considered a monument in Paris (will be visiting for the first time in May) - does the pass cover the following places?

Grand Palais

Opra Garnier

Tour Eiffel

Notre-Dame

Thanks!
